#ImWithHer and #LoveTrumpsHate and #MakeAmericaGreatAgain…if you don’t know what these hash tags mean, or who they belong to, you’ve probably been hiding your head in the sand. As a millennial, feminist, mom, and human resources professional, elections are really tricky topics for me to write about. I have conservative parents, Republican relatives who despise Hillary Clinton, and good friends who would seriously consider a permanent move out of the country if Donald Trump is sworn in as the new leader of the free world. My personal views aside, I think presidential elections should be something we all care about. My [...]

How does one become a business leader after a solid career in HR? We’re not just talking about the HR Manager title, but actually transitioning from being a cog in an HR machine to a true Business Leader. This question comes up often at HR conferences, when senior HR executives reach the top of their discipline, exhaust their interest levels, and begin to seek out a broader scope of influence. Talk at the 2016 HR California conference at Long Beach this month, was no different when it came to how to extend oneself beyond HR and become a broad and [...]

By Tamara Jahelka In attending the #PIHRA #CAHR16 Conference in August at the Long Beach Convention Center, our senior consultants noticed several trends throughout the event. We asked ourselves questions such as: How do we integrate succession planning into our daily recruiting, training and coaching? How do we prepare for changes in economy, resource availability and technology? How can we leverage HR trends and technology to improve the overall organization? These are not fundamental human resource issues but they are strategic approaches and progressive movements in the art of human resources. Human resources needs to continue to make strides to [...]

What was the conference “take-away” from the Peoplescape team in attendance with regard to Talent Acquisition? A Belinda. A tighter labor market and greater competition for quality employees resonates [...]

Stretching just a little further away from your routine can often lead to new challenges but also can result in huge success, conquering of obstacles, making moves, and doing big things! Stepping outside of your comfort zone allows you to take on new challenges, confront those tough or awkward situations, [...]

Have you considered adopting a “Bring Your Own Device” policy at work? Think BYOB party rules except this would be giving the responsibility of purchasing smart phones and/or laptop computers for work entirely to the individual employee rather than the company paying for these work-related items. Of course, the pro’s for you as an employer include cost-savings on such devices, and simplifying the workplace technology policies by eliminating at least a couple electronic devices from the list. But what about the downside of this concept? Here are a few reasons why we would NOT suggest adopting a policy like this [...]

"Millennials are the world-wide phenomenon that dominates social media feeds, branding initiatives, and the corporate world. We’re all obsessed with what millennials are, were, and could be. Meanwhile, unknowns made up 25% of the U.S. population in 2015, a larger cohort than boomers or millennials.” – Isvari Mohan, LinkedIn contributing author When bloggers write about generations, chances are good we are talking about the millennials (those roughly born between early 1980s – mid 1990s). There has been a good deal of discussion about how millennials work in the current structure of the workplace amongst the remaining members of the Silent [...]

By |2018-04-11T16:02:05-07:00August 22, 2016|Blogs, Frontpage Articles, Rewards & Benefits|Comments Off on Final Overtime Ruling: How Does It Affect Your Business?

The final overtime ruling was issued back in May of this year by the federal government regarding salary requirements for exemption status. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), overtime exemptions for executive, administrative, and professional employees is based on a minimum salary requirement (among other factors such as time spent on certain tasks, managing others, and much more).
